Make the paradigm shift to a social model of disability

Through Phoenixx Fundamentals of Compassion workshops and individual/family coaching, you’ll better understand, advocate and gain the tools to support children and adults experiencing life threatening illness, trauma, grief and living with disability and neurodiversity. What do these experiences have in common? A need for honest, flexible informed decision making that aligns with your personal value system. We recognize the need for a medical model for some problem solving, it has a very important place at the front of the line. However we instead choose to embrace a social strength-based model of radically inclusive, trauma-informed and intersectional philosophy that meets people where they are and centers their needs. We are most closely aligned with the therapeutic approach of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with teachings based in current research in androgogy, pedagogy, neuroplasticity, and how people learn.

“ ..I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it what I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible ...”
